Some Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/05\/07\/congress\/democrats-crypto-delay-republicans-agreement-00334041\" target=\"_blank\">were pushing Wednesday afternoon<\/a> to delay the procedural vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still hopeful,\u201d said Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51503\" data-person-id=\"51503\">Kirsten Gillibrand<\/a>, a pro-crypto New York Democrat who has been helping lead negotiations on behalf of Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the Thursday procedural vote, she said she didn\u2019t \u201cknow what\u2019s going to happen yet,\u201d adding that it is \u201call on the leadership level now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/365070\" data-person-id=\"365070\">Bill Hagerty<\/a> (R-Tenn.), the lead sponsor of the bill, said aides will continue working into the evening, adding that he asked members \u201cto maintain radio silence until we get to where we want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Key Democrats including Gillibrand, Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/189136\" data-person-id=\"189136\">Ruben Gallego<\/a> of Arizona, Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/66837\" data-person-id=\"66837\">Mark Warner<\/a> of Virginia and Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/466203\" data-person-id=\"466203\">Angela Alsobrooks<\/a> of Maryland met with Hagerty and other pro-crypto Republicans throughout the day Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>If lawmakers come to a deal late Wednesday night, it will give members who haven\u2019t been directly involved in negotiations limited time to review the legislative text of a complicated policy matter. <\/p>\n<p>The procedural vote is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senators emerged Wednesday evening from closed-door negotiations over cryptocurrency legislation without a deal to trumpet, leaving the landmark digital assets bill in flux ahead of a key procedural vote on Thursday.
