{"id":7206,"date":"2025-03-12T18:18:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T18:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/house-gop-tax-writers-maintain-radio-silence-on-their-plans\/"},"modified":"2025-03-12T18:18:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T18:18:48","slug":"house-gop-tax-writers-maintain-radio-silence-on-their-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/house-gop-tax-writers-maintain-radio-silence-on-their-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"House GOP tax writers maintain radio silence on their plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>House Republican tax writers were clamming up Wednesday about their tax plans, a sign that negotiations were getting serious as they prepared to go into a second day of close-door talks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not talking about anything associated with our ongoing deliberations,\u201d said the normally chatty Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/370303\" data-person-id=\"370303\">Blake Moore<\/a> (R-Utah). \u201cWe\u2019re in a new phase \u2014 everything was hypothetical three months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope you\u2019re not finding anybody who is willing to talk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s comments came as lawmakers on the Ways and Means Committee try to hash out their draft of a plan to address the expiration of some 40 expiring tax credits, along with additional tax proposals offered by President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>They met Monday for a lengthy policy session, amid Chair <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/192689\" data-person-id=\"192689\">Jason Smith<\/a>\u2019s desire to get a bill \u2014 which would also include Trump\u2019s energy, border and defense priorities \u2014 to the president\u2019s desk quickly. The Senate, though, is just getting started.<\/p>\n<p>Negotiations in the House have gotten far enough along that Ways and Means has begun eyeing when they might be able to unveil their plans and bring it before the committee to formally approve.<\/p>\n<p>Some Republicans hope committee action would help generate momentum in other committees despite major questions over lawmakers\u2019 stomach for spending cuts that are supposed to accompany their tax plans, and even though negotiations with the Senate over how to proceed <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/2025\/03\/house-republicans-stew-over-senate-budget-delays-00222348\" target=\"_blank\">are off to a creaky start<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Republican tax writers were clamming up Wednesday about their tax plans, a sign that negotiations were getting serious as they prepared to go into a second day of close-door talks. \u201cI\u2019m not talking about anything associated with our ongoing deliberations,\u201d said the normally chatty Rep.
