Having served a four-month stint behind bars<\/a> on a conviction for contempt of Congress, Steve Bannon<\/a> was released from prison on Tuesday, exactly one week before Election Day.<\/p>\n

Bannon exited the federal correctional facility on Tuesday morning in Danbury, Connecticut, where he has been locked up for the past 120 days, a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson told NBC News.<\/p>\n

A former Donald Trump<\/a> adviser and a staunch \u2014 and incendiary \u2014 supporter of the Republican nominee\u2019s re-election bid, Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison<\/a> for defying a congressional subpoena to testify in the House select committee\u2019s investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. He was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress in 2022 but continuously sought to appeal his conviction<\/a> in a bid to avoid serving time. The Supreme Court ultimately rejected his eleventh-hour appeal<\/a> in June, and he was ordered to report to prison.<\/p>\n

Like Trump, Bannon has issued ominous warnings about the future of the country if the GOP nominee should <\/strong>lose the election. He also parroted Trump\u2019s baseless claims about election fraud, right up until he began serving his sentence. Just days before reporting to prison, he told NBC News<\/a> there was \u201cno chance\u201d Democrats could win the election unless \u201cthey\u2019re stealing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we don\u2019t win the \u2014 first of all, they shred the Constitution. It is the death of the constitutional American republic we know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the day his sentence began, Bannon told reporters outside the correctional facility that he was \u201cproud to go to prison\u201d \u2014 despite having tried hard to avoid doing so \u2014 and framed it as a courageous move to \u201cstand up to\u201d what he characterized as Democrats\u2019 weaponization of the justice system.<\/p>\n

With seven days until Election Day, Bannon\u2019s release comes at a critical juncture in the race, as polls show<\/a> Trump and Kamala Harris practically deadlocked in key battleground states. <\/p>\n

Bannon\u2019s popular podcast, \u201cWar Room,\u201d has continued to air with guest hosts while he was in prison, and Bannon jumped right back into the role of one of Trump\u2019s most vocal and pernicious allies on Tuesday. Appearing on his podcast shortly after his release, Bannon said<\/a> his stint behind bars \u201cnot only didn\u2019t break me, it empowered me,\u201d He also echoed his past remarks, calling himself a \u201cpolitical prisoner.\u201d <\/p>\n

Bannon told The New York Times <\/a>in an interview on Tuesday as he left the correctional facility that he would encourage Trump to once again prematurely declare victory if the vote tallies on Election Day \u2014 before all votes are counted \u2014 showed that the Republican nominee was ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe should stand up and say: \u2018Hey, I\u2019ve won this. And we have teams right now that are going to make sure that this thing is not going to be stolen,\u2019\u201d Bannon told the Times.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
