They will return to half-staff the day after the inauguration, Johnson added in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpeakerJohnson\/status\/1879195077446389850\" target=\"_blank\">the X post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The raised flags will set a different tone for Trump\u2019s swearing-in ceremony. The president-elect had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/01\/03\/congress\/trump-inauguration-flags-00196426\" target=\"_blank\">criticized Democrats for being \u201cgiddy\u201d<\/a> about the flags flying at half-mast during his second inauguration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it,\u201d Trump wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/113765847370756395\" target=\"_blank\">Truth Social<\/a> earlier this month.
