{"id":4676,"date":"2025-01-09T19:19:24","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T19:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/senate-finance-eyes-jan-16-hearing-for-bessent\/"},"modified":"2025-01-09T19:19:24","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T19:19:24","slug":"senate-finance-eyes-jan-16-hearing-for-bessent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/senate-finance-eyes-jan-16-hearing-for-bessent\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Finance eyes Jan. 16 hearing for Bessent"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The Senate Finance Committee is expected to hold a confirmation hearing with President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s nominee for Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, on Jan. 16, according to three people familiar with the committee\u2019s plans, granted anonymity to share the details.<\/p>\n<p>After the committee hearing, Bessent\u2019s nomination would be teed up for an executive session where lawmakers could report him out for confirmation by the full Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Republican and Democratic committee staff were meeting with Bessent on Thursday to discuss his nomination and go over outstanding questions about his financial paperwork, according to a committee aide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Crapo is committed to moving Bessent\u2019s nomination as quickly as possible,\u201d said Mandi Critchfield, a spokesperson for Finance Chair <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51173\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Crapo\u00a0<\/a>(R-Idaho), when asked for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Bessent has so far sailed through his meetings with senators on Capitol Hill. He\u2019s been widely praised by Republicans and some moderate Democrats have left open the door to supporting him.<\/p>\n<p>Having a confirmed Treasury secretary in place will be critical as the incoming Trump administration navigates the debt limit.
