The 22nd Amendment<\/a>, ratified in 1951, states that \u201cno person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” The amendment is widely understood to prohibit anyone from holding the presidency for more than two terms, regardless of whether those terms are consecutive.<\/p>\n

In May, Bannon, who was White House chief strategist during the first seven months of Trump\u2019s first administration, said allowing Trump to serve<\/a> more than two terms would take \u201ctwo-thirds of the House and the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a whole process. It’s not going to happen,\u201d Bannon said on his \u201cWar Room\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n

The same month, Trump said at a National Rifle Association event that \u201cyou know, FDR 16 years \u2014 almost 16 years \u2014 he was four terms. I don\u2019t know, are we going to be considered three-term?
