He claims to have been \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/11\/21\/hegseth-trump-allegations-defense-secretary-00190958\" target=\"_blank\">completely cleared<\/a>\u201d of the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from Hegseth\u2019s lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/11\/16\/pete-hegseth-sexual-assault-accuser-paid\/\" target=\"_blank\">obtained by the Washington Post<\/a> said that Hegseth paid a woman who accused him of sexual assault as part of a nondisclosure agreement \u2014 but continued to deny the accusations that she made. Releasing the woman from the agreement would allow her to speak publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Graham compared the situation to that of Brett Kavanaugh\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/tag\/kavanaugh-confirmation\" target=\"_blank\">2018 Supreme Court confirmation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFive people accused Justice Kavanaugh of misconduct. Three were outright lies, the other two, I think, were not credible,\u201d he said, referencing Christine Blasey Ford and other accusers. \u201cSo we&#8217;re not going to let that happen to Pete. You&#8217;re not going to destroy his nomination based on anonymous sources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he\u2019s prepared to vote yes on Hegseth\u2019s confirmation at this point, Graham offered a tentative yes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m in a good place with Pete, unless something I don&#8217;t know about comes out,\u201d he said. \u201cThese allegations are disturbing, but they&#8217;re anonymous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham added: \u201cHe&#8217;s given me his side of the story.
