Jean Carroll, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/05\/09\/trump-e-jean-carroll-trial-verdict-00096009\" target=\"_blank\">won a civil verdict against Trump for sexual abuse<\/a> last year. The jury did not back Carroll\u2019s rape claim against Trump, but in <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nysd.543790\/gov.uscourts.nysd.543790.200.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">a subsequent opinion<\/a>, the judge presiding over the case emphasized the distinction between the legal definition of rape and its more colloquial understanding.<\/p>\n<p>Spokespeople for Trump and for ABC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The suit against ABC is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/12\/08\/trump-civil-lawsuits-00193121\" target=\"_blank\">one of a series of cases Trump filed<\/a> against news organizations and perceived political enemies after leaving the White House in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The suits, in which Trump claims financial damages sometimes up to billions of dollars, generated fodder Trump could point to during the 2024 campaign highlighting his continued fight with what he claimed to be his opponents in the mainstream media.
