We need to end this tariff war now,\u201d Rogers <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=klJOCnlziU4&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\">said in the advertisement<\/a>, which is part of a coordinated spend between his campaign at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cas Michigan\u2019s senator, I\u2019ll bring both parties together to lower your prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each year, Michigan does roughly $80 billion in trade with Canada, according to the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>The new video comes weeks after he put out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/09\/21\/congress\/rogers-says-iran-war-needs-to-end-01086434\" target=\"_blank\">another advertisement<\/a> breaking with President Donald Trump, publicly calling for the war with Iran to end \u201cquickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In both commercials, Rogers said that prices are too high and neither mentioned the president by name.<\/p>\n<p>The latest ad is a shift from his previous positioning on trade with Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Rogers said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/09\/09\/in-michigan-gop-senate-candidate-makes-a-canadian-sized-gamble-on-trade-01068113\" target=\"_blank\">some of the tariffs<\/a> imposed on Canadian goods are needed, as the state\u2019s manufacturing sector has been gutted by cheap foreign imports in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump is right to put America first \u2014 and tariffs are necessary, but are not a one-size-fits-all solution,\u201d Rogers previously said <a href=\"https:\/\/rogersforsenate.com\/news\/michigan-democrats-have-managed-our-states-decline-now-its-time-for-a-change\" target=\"_blank\">in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But, he also said he has the pull to end the trade war threatening Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>The White House, along with Rogers\u2019 and Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed\u2019s campaigns, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michigan Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers called for an end to the \u201ctariff war\u201d with Canada in a new campaign advertisement released on Wednesday, another break from the Trump administration weeks before the midterm elections.
