Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/304456\" data-person-id=\"304456\">Jahana Hayes<\/a> (D-Conn.) is <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/2026\/09\/jahana-hayes-considers-bid-to-unseat-bobby-scott-as-top-house-education-democrat-01059544\" target=\"_blank\">also running for the panel\u2019s top spot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bonamici wrote in the letter that she is \u201cready to bring a fresh and collaborative approach to invigorate this Committee with a plan to champion the education and labor priorities of our Caucus. With my legal background, I\u2019m prepared to use all of the power of Congress to hold Trump and his cronies, including Secretary Linda McMahon, accountable for the harm they have caused.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bonamici introduced a resolution to impeach the Education secretary because of McMahon&#8217;s efforts to dismantle the department without the approval of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s announcement comes after Bonamici <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/2026\/09\/bobby-scott-education-bonamici-leadership-01080442\" target=\"_blank\">told POLITICO last month<\/a> that she was not ruling out a run for committee leadership and was having conversations about it.
