Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) on Monday expressed frustration over the ongoing war in Iran and its impact on Iowans\u2019 pocketbooks, publicly distancing herself from President Donald Trump ahead of November\u2019s rapidly approaching midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIowans are being squeezed and shouldn\u2019t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran,\u201d Hinson said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hinsonashley\/status\/2102046188249719095?s=46\" target=\"_blank\">in a post to social media<\/a> on Monday. \u201cWe need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the second time Hinson, the GOP candidate in Iowa\u2019s critical Senate race and a loyal ally of Trump\u2019s, has expressed concerns over the war. In June, Blue Light News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/06\/02\/ashley-hinson-audio-iran-war-iowa-senate-00946145\" target=\"_blank\">obtained audio of Hinson warning<\/a> the war could become a \u201cpolitical liability\u201d if it continued much longer. Hinson did not mention Trump by name in her Monday statement.<\/p>\n<p>Hinson called for suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports and creating a diesel relief program to help farmers and truckers \u201cbeing crushed by the high costs,\u201d among several other possible solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Gas and diesel prices have soared over the duration of the war with Iran, which began in February. Regular gas was just over $4.45 per gallon on Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to AAA<\/a>, and diesel prices hit a record high of $6.50 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and members of his administration have dismissed concerns over the costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have a little higher. It\u2019s a very inexpensive price to pay for what we\u2019ve done,\u201d Trump said <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gas-prices-trump-midterms-affordability-iran-war-d2f5d5aa7ecc1f6d55d8f5759db03150?utm_source=app&amp;utm_medium=iOS_share&amp;utm_campaign=copy_link\" target=\"_blank\">during a campaign stop in North Carolina<\/a> last week. \u201cRemember that.
