The bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus launched a working group to address artificial intelligence and other evolving technologies, the group announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

The working group comes as Congress grapples with public alarm over the growing capabilities of AI and claims it could doom humanity, and the need to advance the powerful technology faster than China.<\/p>\n

The new group is meant to toe the line between safety and development.<\/p>\n

The group will be co-chaired by Reps. Mike Lawler<\/a> (R-N.Y.) and Josh Gottheimer<\/a> (D-N.J.), who also co-chairs Democrats\u2019 AI commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing is clear: getting AI policy right is critical to our future \u2014 to American children, families, our national security, and our global competitiveness,\u201d Gottheimer said in a statement. \u201cWe can win the AI race \u2014 but we must do it in a smart way with commonsense guardrails and rules of the road.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cArtificial intelligence is transforming our economy, workforce, and national security, and the United States must lead, not China,\u201d Lawler added. \u201cWe need commonsense guardrails that protect Americans, empower workers and small businesses, and ensure AI remains secure, transparent, and trustworthy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reps. Hillary Scholten<\/a> (D-Mich.) and Blake Moore<\/a> (R-Utah) will serve as the group\u2019s vice chairs, with Reps. David Joyce<\/a> (R-Ohio), Susie Lee<\/a> (D-Nev.), Rob Bresnahan<\/a> (R-Pa.), Steven Horsford<\/a> (D-Nev.), Tom Kean<\/a> (R-N.J.), Angie Craig<\/a> (D-Minn.), Maria Salazar<\/a> (R-Fla.) and Scott Peters<\/a> (D-Calif.) rounding out the body.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
