There are currently no cosponsors for the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Reps. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/189606\" data-person-id=\"189606\">Ted Lieu<\/a> (D-Calif.) and <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/417822\" data-person-id=\"417822\">Nathaniel Moran<\/a> (R-Texas) introduced their own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/07\/23\/house-ai-kill-switch-bill-unveiled-as-openai-hack-raises-alarms-01008898\" target=\"_blank\">AI \u201ckill switch\u201d bill<\/a> in July, which would allow the government to order top AI firms to shut down or slow AI models it deems too dangerous and require companies to report incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy stressed his bill would not permit the government to halt these powerful AI systems. \u201cIf I put the federal government in charge of the kill switch, it won&#8217;t pass, and the president will probably veto it.
