You don\u2019t want to stifle innovation, but I think you also want to make sure that the more advanced threats can be mitigated, and there\u2019s a capability in place to do that,\u201d Thune said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that he believed Congress could put \u201cguardrails around those types of more consequential threats without in any way harming our ability to stay ahead in the AI race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thune introduced an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thune.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/thune-klobuchar-lead-commerce-committee-colleagues-in-introducing-bipartisan-ai-bill-to-boost-innovation-and-strengthen-accountability\/\" target=\"_blank\">AI safety bill<\/a> with Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51842\" data-person-id=\"51842\">Amy Klobuchar<\/a> (D-Minn.) in 2023 and is negotiating a revised version that he said Monday \u201creflects the approach\u201d he is advocating.
