Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced Thursday he is leaving rehab to return home after a fall earlier this summer left him hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, McConnell thanked the medical staff who helped him during his stay, but added that he will not be returning to Washington just yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the advice of my doctors, I\u2019ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I\u2019ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,\u201d McConnell said.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell, 84, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/07\/02\/congress\/mcconnell-remains-hospitalized-00986648\" target=\"_blank\">rushed to the hospital<\/a> on June 14 following a fall and what he described as a \u201cmild case of pneumonia.\u201d He later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/07\/12\/mcconnell-provides-health-update-i-have-every-intention-of-finishing-the-job-00994320\" target=\"_blank\">told constituents<\/a> that while he was briefly knocked unconscious, he did not suffer any broken bones, a stroke or a heart attack. <\/p>\n<p>His absence from Congress has been met with frustrations about what some have called a lack of transparency. Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/07\/28\/congress\/beshear-mcconnell-health-update-resign-01013412\" target=\"_blank\">demanded the senator resign<\/a> if he couldn\u2019t \u201cdirectly and verbally address the people of Kentucky\u201d with \u201cproof of your capacity to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell has suffered several health challenges in recent years, including a fall taken while leaving the Senate chamber that briefly left him using a wheelchair.
