But Rep. Max Miller says he is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/08\/05\/mike-johnson-max-miller-domestic-abuse-01025050\" target=\"_blank\">not backing down from his race<\/a> amid domestic abuse allegations \u2014 and claims Speaker Mike Johnson has his back.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson says he hasn\u2019t talked to him.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker sat down with Blue Light News\u2019s Dasha Burns for an episode of The Conversation Tuesday night, where he was asked about Miller\u2019s comments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n-aJoM74xH0\" target=\"_blank\">earlier in the<\/a> evening that \u201cSpeaker Mike Johnson, everyone else \u2014 they\u2019re standing behind me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to Max about this in the last few days. Of course, I will,\u201d Johnson said, adding \u201cit\u2019s not my business\u201d to get engaged in members\u2019 family matters. He called for a House Ethics investigation to \u201cplay out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson\u2019s comments break days of silence from House GOP leadership on the explosive allegations that have thrown the future of Miller\u2019s re-election campaign into question. Miller is denying any wrongdoing. <\/p>\n<p>Now the controversies around Miller and Edwards threaten to further distract from Republicans\u2019 midterm pitch, as leaders like Johnson criss-cross the country this month trying to boost their candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The White House is privately pressuring Miller to drop his reelection bid, four people with knowledge of the conversations said. But Miller is defiant, declaring he has zero intention of dropping out.<\/p>\n<p>If Miller changes his mind, he has until the end of this week to exit the race if Republicans want to replace his name on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday night, Johnson also addressed Edwards\u2019 plight, saying the North Carolina Republican has \u201cto make a big decision.\u201d Edwards has accused the Ethics panel of overstepping in calling for his censure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll provide counsel when we have that discussion, it will be a private discussion,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI hope he does the right thing for him and his family.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards faced a Monday deadline for Republicans to replace him on the ballot. Budget Chair Ron Johnson wants to discuss the budget framework\u2019s path more in Wednesday\u2019s Senate GOP lunch.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u2014 SENATORS PICK SIDES ON BLANCHE:<\/b> Todd Blanche picked up an important GOP vote Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/08\/04\/congress\/todd-blanche-votes-curtis-01023896\" target=\"_blank\"><u>for his nomination<\/u><\/a> as attorney general \u2014 Sen.
