Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced Monday that he will remain in rehab as he continues to recover from a June fall that left him briefly unconscious.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcconnell.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/pressreleases?ID=DC6BF158-0E6A-4BAC-AF63-43E7DB393869\" target=\"_blank\"><u>In a statement<\/u><\/a>, McConnell shared that he is \u201cworking hard\u201d to return to a full schedule but remains in \u201cintense physical therapy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Office of the Attending Physician (OAP) confirmed that medical staff visit the senator daily to discuss &#8220;all aspects of his rehabilitation care&#8221; but added he is \u201cnot yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince his discharge from hospital care, he has maintained a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls,\u201d the OAP said. \u201cHis bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell, 84, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/07\/02\/congress\/mcconnell-remains-hospitalized-00986648\" target=\"_blank\"><u>was rushed to the hospital<\/u><\/a> on June 14 following the fall and what he described as a \u201cmild case of pneumonia.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/07\/12\/mcconnell-provides-health-update-i-have-every-intention-of-finishing-the-job-00994320\" target=\"_blank\"><u>In a letter to constituents<\/u><\/a> earlier this month, he said that while he was briefly knocked unconscious, he did not suffer any broken bones, a stroke or a heart attack. It is unclear when McConnell was discharged.<\/p>\n<p>But his continued rehab stay means McConnell will miss Kentucky\u2019s premier political event: the annual Fancy Farm Picnic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no place I\u2019d rather be on the first Saturday in August than with the good people of western Kentucky, feasting on pork and mutton,\u201d McConnell said Monday. \u201cI hate that I\u2019ll miss the fun this year, but I\u2019m sending my best wishes to the St. Jerome community for a successful picnic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell, who is retiring when his current term concludes in January, has faced a series of health challenges in recent years. In 2023, he froze twice while speaking to reporters.
