Sens. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/175586\" data-person-id=\"175586\">Rick Scott<\/a> (R-Fla.), <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/151822\" data-person-id=\"151822\">Ron Johnson<\/a> (R-Wis.), <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/374701\" data-person-id=\"374701\">Tommy Tuberville<\/a> (R-Ala.), <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/151828\" data-person-id=\"151828\">Rand Paul<\/a> (R-Ky.) and <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/151827\" data-person-id=\"151827\">Mike Lee<\/a> (R-Utah) voted &#8220;no.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The legislation now moves on to the House, which could take up the bill for final passage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/06\/22\/congress\/house-to-accelerate-housing-bill-consideration-final-passage-as-soon-as-tuesday-00970321\" target=\"_blank\">as soon as Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation has become a pillar of Congress\u2019 overall response to affordability concerns that have emerged as a key issue this midterm election year.<\/p>\n<p>Despite broad, bipartisan support for the bill in both the House and Senate, the two chambers went back and forth on the legislation for months. Primary friction points developed over language establishing new restrictions on large Wall Street investors purchasing single-family homes, a ban on the Federal Reserve issuing a digital currency and a slate of community banking deregulation initiatives, among other measures.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was able to move forward last week after the four lawmakers leading the legislation \u2014 Senate Banking Chair <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/151800\" data-person-id=\"151800\">Tim Scott<\/a> (R-S.C.) and ranking member <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/140963\" data-person-id=\"140963\">Elizabeth Warren<\/a> (D-Mass.), and House Financial Services Chair <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/227472\" data-person-id=\"227472\">French Hill<\/a> (R-Ark.) and ranking member <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51664\" data-person-id=\"51664\">Maxine Waters<\/a> (D-Calif.) \u2014 came to an agreement.
