The bill could be included in a package of AI and kids\u2019 safety bills that Blackburn is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/06\/11\/white-houses-ai-state-preemption-kids-safety-00958020\" target=\"_blank\">working on with the White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The latest version of the bill has <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/newsletter\/2026\/06\/ai-lobby-hits-the-campaign-trail-00966558\" target=\"_blank\">earned broad support<\/a> from Hollywood and the tech industry, receiving endorsements from YouTube, TikTok and OpenAI as well as Disney and the actors\u2019 union SAG-AFTRA. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/legislation.politicopro.com\/bill\/US_119_S_1367?activeTabs=overview\" target=\"_blank\">originally introduced<\/a> last Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative that we put this national standard in place for voice and visual likeness protection of creators,\u201d the Tennessee Republican said at the markup.<\/p>\n<p>Other bills that could be included in Blackburn\u2019s package are the <a href=\"https:\/\/legislation.politicopro.com\/bill\/US_119_S_1748\" target=\"_blank\">Kids Online Safety Act<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/legislation.politicopro.com\/bill\/US_119_S_1586\" target=\"_blank\">App Store Accountability Act<\/a>. Such a package could ultimately block some state laws on AI \u2014 though it\u2019s not yet clear how aggressively the measure would preempt state action on narrow issues such as verifying users\u2019 ages on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always said America needs one set of rules for AI, and NO FAKES is a critical component of that rulebook,\u201d Blackburn added.<\/p>\n<p>Both the NO FAKES Act and KOSA have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/06\/17\/congress\/kids-safety-package-draws-backlash-over-age-checks-speech-concerns-00965712\" target=\"_blank\">come under fire<\/a> over a number of First Amendment concerns. A coalition of free speech groups including the Center for Democracy &amp; Technology and the Electronic Frontier Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/f\/?id=0000019e-cdcc-da38-a7ff-ddde0fe50000\" target=\"_blank\">sent a letter<\/a> to Judiciary Committee leadership on Tuesday urging members not to advance the NO FAKES Act in its current form.<\/p>\n<p>Sens. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/congress\/member\/9c10f49c-c99d-46b3-854b-28db18856420\" target=\"_blank\">Ted Cruz<\/a> (R-Texas), <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/congress\/member\/e32b7d42-42fe-4582-988c-f76059e4a063\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Lee<\/a> (R-Utah) and <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/congress\/member\/797b8f75-74d2-4d2d-8235-0cfbaf862249\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Schmitt<\/a> (R-Mo.) expressed their issues with the bill\u2019s effects on free speech and looked to address those concerns with the co-sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>As an example, Cruz pointed to former reality television star Spencer Pratt, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/california-playbook-pm\/2026\/05\/20\/pratt-ai-campaign-videos-00930357\" target=\"_blank\">ran a series of AI-generated videos<\/a> \u2014 often without a statement disclosing the content was created using AI \u2014 during his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/06\/12\/la-dems-post-spencer-pratt-00960347\" target=\"_blank\">failed Los Angeles mayoral campaign<\/a>, including portrayals of himself as Batman and Luke Skywalker.
