{"id":24216,"date":"2026-06-13T17:02:52","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T17:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/trumps-name-purged-from-kennedy-center\/"},"modified":"2026-06-13T17:02:52","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T17:02:52","slug":"trumps-name-purged-from-kennedy-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/trumps-name-purged-from-kennedy-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s name purged from Kennedy Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump\u2019s name was removed from the facade of the Kennedy Center on Saturday, capping off the president\u2019s longtime effort to assert control over the institution, one of Washington\u2019s most iconic cultural landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>In a Saturday <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972.59.1_3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">court filing to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia<\/a>, Matthew Floca, the Kennedy Center\u2019s chief operating officer and executive director, confirmed work crews had removed \u201call physical signage\u201d from the building and grounds \u201cthat purports to rename the Kennedy Center after President Trump or any individual besides President Kennedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Workers, hidden behind a large white tarp, removed <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CBSNews\/status\/2065797842396958932\" target=\"_blank\">Trump\u2019s name from the building\u2019s white exterior<\/a> early Saturday morning, after blowing past a Friday deadline due to what Floca cited as \u201cweather-related delays.\u201d The tarp remained in place on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The removal comes after U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/05\/29\/judge-blocks-trump-kennedy-center-renaming-closure-00943068\" target=\"_blank\">ruled in late May that Trump\u2019s rebranding<\/a> of the performing arts center in his own name was illegal, contravening federal law that the center could only honor Kennedy and usurping authority from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks since, officials have removed references to Trump on the Kennedy Center\u2019s website, issued new identification cards, edited employee email signatures and rescinded any trademark applications adding Trump to the institution\u2019s name, Floca wrote in his filing.
