Hayden Haynes, Speaker Mike Johnson\u2019s longtime chief of staff, will leave the job in June, Johnson\u2019s office confirmed Friday.<\/p>\n

Haynes will be replaced by Garrett Fultz, Johnson\u2019s deputy chief of staff.<\/p>\n

Haynes has been by Johnson\u2019s side for all of his key achievements since ascending to the speakership in 2023<\/a>, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping domestic megabill considered the signature legislative accomplishment of President Donald Trump\u2019s second term. The bill made it through the House<\/a> by just a single vote last summer.<\/p>\n

But his time in Johnson\u2019s office has not been without controversy. In March 2025, he was arrested for a DUI<\/a> on the night of Trump\u2019s joint address to Congress. Haynes pleaded not guilty<\/a> the following month.<\/p>\n

Johnson stood by his top aide.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve worked with him,\u201d he told reporters after Haynes\u2019 arrest. \u201cHe\u2019s trusted and respected. And he has my full faith and confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n
