{"id":22970,"date":"2026-05-19T15:47:29","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T15:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/todd-blanche-says-he-wont-recommend-pardoning-maxwell\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T15:47:29","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T15:47:29","slug":"todd-blanche-says-he-wont-recommend-pardoning-maxwell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/todd-blanche-says-he-wont-recommend-pardoning-maxwell\/","title":{"rendered":"Todd Blanche says he won\u2019t recommend pardoning Maxwell"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said Tuesday that the Justice Department, under his leadership, would not recommend a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, the only convicted co-conspirator of Jeffrey Epstein now serving 20 years in prison for her part in the sex trafficking scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can commit to that, of course,\u201d he said in response to a question from Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51658\" data-person-id=\"51658\">Chris Van Hollen<\/a> (D-Md.) during a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to pardon Maxwell, however, is ultimately up to President Donald Trump, who has not ruled out such an action. Her lawyer has said that she intends to seek clemency to avoid having to serve out the entirety of her sentence and that he believes a pardon is likely.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche, serving in his capacity as the deputy attorney general, interviewed Maxwell in a Florida U.S. attorney\u2019s office last summer over the course of a two day meeting. There, Maxwell said that she never saw Trump engage in impropriety and that she \u201cadmire[d] his extraordinary achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shortly afterward, Maxwell was transferred to a minimum security prison camp, a move criticized by many as a kind of reward from the administration for Maxwell.
