Eric Swalwell, who is facing allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>The Ethics panel said in a statement that the investigation into the California Democrat relates to \u201callegations that he may have engaged in sexual misconduct, including towards an employee working under his supervision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/04\/12\/eric-swalwell-suspends-california-governor-run-sexual-misconduct-allegations-00867949\" target=\"_blank\">suspended a run for governor<\/a> Sunday, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Swalwell has vowed to fight what he calls false allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The accusations, reported in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/politics\/article\/eric-swalwell-allegations-22198271.php\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Chronicle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/10\/us\/eric-swalwell-sexual-misconduct-allegations-invs\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a>, prompted a cascade of Democrats to withdraw their support for his bid for the governorship.
