That lawsuit did not target Booz Allen or Charles Littlejohn \u2014 who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/criminal\/criminal-vns\/case\/united-states-v-charles-littlejohn\" target=\"_blank\">sentenced to five years in prison<\/a> in 2024. But the Treasury Department canceled contracts with the company in January \u2014 a situation that Scott\u2019s lawsuit said proved that the company was culpable.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s 23-page lawsuit, <a href=\"https:\/\/links.us1.defend.egress.com\/Warning?crId=69c2f4e1ea5063f283c3035a&amp;Domain=politico.com&amp;Threat=eNpzrShJLcpLzAEADmkDRA%3D%3D&amp;Lang=en&amp;Base64Url=eNoFwlEKgCAQBcATrSsWfXQbE0FrdUVfKJ0-ZhLQxsk85zR-ZR0maGFn3cF2Y7dzz-GhERSgS_UjLxIrSQYk3poqwS-S6B9Cf0v7AVrSHHU%3D&amp;@OriginalLink=www.axios.com\" target=\"_blank\">which was first reported by Axios<\/a>, contends that Littlejohn\u2019s access to IRS system was made possible \u201csolely through Booz Allen and its federal contracts with the Department of the Treasury and the IRS.\u201d The lawsuit cites previous incidents with the company that point to failures that \u201cdid not occur in a vacuum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe unlawful disclosure of plaintiff\u2019s tax return was not merely the result of an isolated act,\u201d the lawsuit states. \u201cIt was enabled by systemic safeguard failures and negligent supervision within the contractor framework under which Booz Allen operated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Booz Allen did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Scott attended Littlejohn&#8217;s sentencing hearing back in 2024 and gave a victim impact statement where he criticized the terms of the deal reached between Littlejohn and federal authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Scott is one of the wealthiest members of Congress, and his finances have <a href=\"https:\/\/links.us1.defend.egress.com\/Warning?crId=69c2f4e1ea5063f283c3035a&amp;Domain=politico.com&amp;Threat=eNpzrShJLcpLzAEADmkDRA%3D%3D&amp;Lang=en&amp;Base64Url=eNo1ylsOQDAQBdAVjSJttXZT7fVIGGJGbB8fzveZVQ_pjUkH45Yq75sRcFIQVmRddhaawDjTSt-gixdFIdH3CP23xDp4O3ZwjS2-DdmHODiM1nbexeYBlPcjAw%3D%3D&amp;@OriginalLink=apnews.com\" target=\"_blank\">repeatedly come under scrutiny<\/a> since he first ran for office back in 2010. Before getting into politics, Scott ran Columbia\/HCA \u2014 one of the nation\u2019s largest for-profit hospital chains \u2014 but he resigned amid an ongoing federal investigation. After his departure, the company wound up paying $1.7 billion in fines and damages to resolve allegations of fraud. Scott was never charged and has denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Scott used his personal money to help finance his campaigns for public office, including his 2010 run for Florida governor and his 2018 defeat of incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson.<\/p>\n<p>His lawsuit against Booz Allen seeks compensatory damages for loss of privacy and economic losses, including security and monitoring costs as well as punitive damages.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s lawsuit contends that the harm to him and others is \u201congoing\u201d because news outlets continue to hold up to 15 years of \u201cconfidential taxpayer information\u201d and that he and \u201chis family are concerned that their personal information could appear in yet another news story sometime in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TALLAHASSEE, Florida \u2014 Sen.
