President Donald Trump took a swing at Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) after they called for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to be fired, dismissing both as \u201closers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re terrible senators. One is gone, and the other should be gone,\u201d Trump said in an interview with ABC News posted Wednesday<\/a>. \u201cWhat Murkowski says \u2014 she\u2019s always against the Republicans anyway. And Tillis decided to drop out. So you know, he lost his voice once he did that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murkowski and Tillis became the first Republicans in Congress to publicly state<\/a> that Noem should lose her job after her response to a second highly publicized shooting in Minnesota involving federal immigration agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what she\u2019s done in Minnesota should be disqualifying,\u201d Tillis, who is not seeking reelection, told reporters Tuesday. \u201cIt\u2019s just amateurish. It\u2019s terrible. It\u2019s making the president look bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murkowski told reporters separately that \u201cshe should go,\u201d adding to mounting pressure for Trump to fire Noem following the killing of 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Trump has remained supportive of Noem, telling reporters at the White House on Tuesday, \u201cI think she\u2019s doing a very good job.\u201d When asked if Noem would step down, he replied, \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noem faced backlash for her comments soon after Pretti\u2019s shooting, in which she labeled him a \u201cdomestic terrorist\u201d<\/a> and claimed without evidence that he intended to kill law enforcement.<\/p>\n

While a growing number of Democrats in Congress have called for Noem\u2019s impeachment<\/a>, Trump signaled that he has little patience for Republicans joining in that narrative.<\/p>\n

Trump also took a jab at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) after she was attacked by a man and sprayed<\/a> with an unknown substance Tuesday while she spoke at a Minnesota town hall. The man, later identified by local police as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, was tackled to the ground and detained.<\/p>\n

When asked for his thoughts on Omar\u2019s attack, Trump told ABC News, \u201cI don\u2019t think about her. I think she\u2019s a fraud. I don\u2019t really think about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
