{"id":18065,"date":"2026-01-22T19:32:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T19:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/clintons-are-working-in-good-faith-toward-epstein-testimony-jeffries-says\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T19:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T19:32:07","slug":"clintons-are-working-in-good-faith-toward-epstein-testimony-jeffries-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/clintons-are-working-in-good-faith-toward-epstein-testimony-jeffries-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Clintons are \u2018working in good faith\u2019 toward Epstein testimony, Jeffries says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Bill and Hillary Clinton are \u201cworking in good faith\u201d to comply with Oversight Committee subpoenas related to Jeffrey Epstein, a day after the panel voted to recommend holding them in contempt over their refusal to appear for testimony.<\/p>\n<p>The top Democratic leader said the former president and the former secretary of State \u201care working in good faith to try to reach an accommodation with the Oversight Committee in order to sit down and offer their testimony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the contempt effort led by Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) \u201clacks any credibility\u201d in part because \u201cit has always been congressional practice that if someone is under a subpoena, you work to find reasonable accommodation in order to receive their testimony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nine Oversight Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/01\/21\/9-democrats-vote-to-hold-bill-clinton-in-contempt-of-congress-for-evading-epstein-testimony-00739940\" target=\"_blank\">voted with Republicans<\/a> Wednesday to recommend holding Bill Clinton in contempt, while three Democrats voted to recommend holding Hillary Clinton in contempt, both as part of the panel\u2019s investigation into the late convicted sex offender.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee said the Clintons\u2019 attorneys had not been in touch since the contempt vote.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Wednesday\u2019s vote, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/01\/21\/congress\/jeffries-urged-opposition-to-clintons-contempt-resolution-00740222\" target=\"_blank\">Jeffries urged opposition<\/a> to a contempt recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he was advising members not to support the contempt measure on the floor, Jeffries cited the opposition of Reps. Robert Garcia of California and Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrats respectively on the Oversight and Judiciary committees.
