Here&rsquo;s your Tuesday Tech Drop, the week&rsquo;s top stories from the intersection of technology and politics.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-home-depot-investors-unnerved-over-i-c-e\">ICE gives Home Depot investors goosebumps<\/h2>\n<p>A group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/top-stories\/latest\/home-depot-deportation-depot-florida-republicans-rcna225689\">Home Depot<\/a> investors has raised concerns about the company&rsquo;s work with a surveillance firm after a news report said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/opinion\/cell-phone-filming-ice-doj-renee-good-shooting\">U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> used data acquired by the firm to aid Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/01\/18\/trump-ice-minneapolis-polls-immigration\/\">increasingly unpopular<\/a> anti-immigrant crackdown.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters reported last week that some investors, spearheaded by a group that advocates for sustainability, want a review of the company&rsquo;s partnership with Flock Safety, which conducts anti-fraud and security measures for corporations, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/ice-taps-into-nationwide-ai-enabled-camera-network-data-shows\/\">404 Media reported in May<\/a> that local law enforcement agencies provided Flock&rsquo;s license plate data to federal immigration officers. The investors want to understand Flock&rsquo;s involvement with Home Depot for &ldquo;assessment of privacy and civil rights risks, including discrimination or wrongful detention from misuse of customer data.&rdquo; They say the practices &ldquo;may expose the Company to financial and legal risks, including potential data breaches and enforcement of evolving state privacy laws.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Home Depot, whose locations the Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/HMU-Iaic8GI\">has targeted in its anti-immigrant crackdown<\/a>declined to comment on whether it would end its partnership with Flock Safety but told Reuters, &ldquo;The company does not grant access to its license-plate readers to federal law enforcement.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Read the Reuters report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/boards-policy-regulation\/amid-ice-raids-some-home-depot-investors-want-know-how-law-enforcement-uses-its-2026-01-16\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-growing-grok-backlash\">Growing Grok backlash<\/h2>\n<p>Elon Musk&rsquo;s social media artificial intelligence chatbot continues to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/opinion\/state-dept-x-ofcom-probe-grok-pornography\">face a backlash<\/a> over a feature Musk and his team recently enabled that allowed X users to generate nonconsensual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/opinion\/state-dept-x-ofcom-probe-grok-pornography\">pornographic images<\/a>including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/infinite-scroll\/grok-and-the-ai-porn-problem\">images of children<\/a>. The company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vjX4RqqyCx4\">announced in a video<\/a> that it had determined &ldquo;This content might reference topics that advertisers find controversial, but are ultimately comfortable running their ads against. For example, content may be in a fictional context or voiced from personal experiences in passing or in a nongraphic manner.
