Nancy Mace\u2019s campaign for South Carolina governor announced his resignation Monday, saying the gubernatorial hopeful has \u201cdecided to turn her back on MAGA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Austin McCubbin, a longtime Republican operative, bashed Mace <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/austinmccubbin\/status\/1995536685191373122\" target=\"_blank\">in a post on X<\/a> and accused her of trying to \u201chug the political cactus that is the Rand Paul [and] Thomas Massie wing of the Party\u201d and questioned the third-term member of Congress\u2019 ties to a the Protect Freedom PAC \u2014 a Paul-aligned committee.<\/p>\n<p>In his post, McCubbin claimed Mace told him she directed a friend to steer a \u201c7-figure check\u201d to the PAC, calling her \u201cwittingly or unwittingly a proxy for Rand Paul\u2019s 2028 presidential campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That conversation, he said, was the catalyzing moment behind his decision to leave the campaign. Blue Light News has not independently verified the claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name has been used publicly, while going back on her word to pay me, to trade on my Team Trump status and to work on her behalf with the White House, and I am 100% breaking with her campaign out of loyalty to the President,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Mace, in a statement in response to McCubbin\u2019s post, said: \u201cMr. McCubbin didn\u2019t raise a dime for the campaign or better yet, never even bothered showing up. When he demanded $10,000 a month for \u2018services\u2019 and was told no, he ran straight to X. Good luck with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/10\/31\/gop-race-sc-governor-heats-up-without-trumps-endorsement-00631063\" target=\"_blank\">President Donald Trump\u2019s endorsement<\/a> is all but certain to help propel his preferred candidate into Columbia\u2019s top post. Mace \u2014 like the other candidates in the crowded field \u2014 has been angling for the president\u2019s endorsement since her entry to the race in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy advice to the President, my friends in the White House, and South Carolina Trump voters: scratch her name from the list,\u201d McCubbin wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Mace\u2019s campaign for governor announced McCubbin\u2019s hire as one of the campaign\u2019s \u201clead consultants\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nancymace.org\/trump-south-carolina-state-director-joins-nancy-mace-for-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\">in a press release<\/a> earlier this year, touting his close ties to the successful Trump campaign operations in the Palmetto State during the 2024 election. The two had also worked together previously: McCubbin managed Mace\u2019s first reelection bid in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about loyalty,\u201d McCubbin wrote, calling current Gov.
