Another member of the conservative Heritage Foundation has resigned following a video posted by the organization\u2019s president defending Tucker Carlson\u2019s interview with Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes.<\/p>\n

In a post to Facebook<\/a>, board member Robert P. George said he can no longer remain part of the foundation without a \u201cfull retraction\u201d of the video released last month<\/a> by the organization\u2019s president, Kevin Roberts.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough Kevin publicly apologized for some of what he said in the video, he could not offer a full retraction of its content. So, we reached an impasse,\u201d George said.<\/p>\n

Carlson\u2019s interview with Fuentes \u2014 who has previously expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler \u2014 received widespread condemnation<\/a> for antisemitism, and the aftermath has exposed fault lines among conservatives.<\/p>\n

In his Oct. 30 video, Roberts denounced the “venomous coalition\u201d criticizing both Fuentes and Carlson, adding that Carlson is a \u201cclose friend.\u201d He said that though he disagrees with and even \u201cabhors\u201d things Fuentes said, he did not believe in \u201ccanceling\u201d him or Carlson. On Sunday, President Donald Trump also defended Carlson<\/a>, telling reporters \u201cyou can\u2019t tell him who to interview.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fuentes, a well-known provocateur on the right, has previously said that \u201corganized Jewry\u201d is leading to the disappearance of white culture.<\/p>\n

Roberts later said<\/a> he \u201cdidn\u2019t know much about this Fuentes guy,\u201d and that his video script was written by an aide who has since resigned.<\/p>\n

George on Monday said that Roberts is a \u201cgood man\u201d who acknowledged a \u201cserious mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat divided us was a difference of opinion about what was required to rectify the mistake,\u201d George added.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Heritage Foundation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

George, the McCormick professor of jurisprudence and director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, had been a Heritage trustee since 2019, according to the foundation\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

His resignation is one of several in light of Roberts’ video, including at least five members of the foundation\u2019s antisemitism task force, according to CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI pray that Heritage\u2019s research and advocacy will be guided by the conviction that each and every member of the human family, irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, or anything else, as a creature fashioned in the very image of God, is \u201ccreated equal\u201d and \u201cendowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights,\u201d George said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
