{"id":15169,"date":"2025-11-02T20:16:59","date_gmt":"2025-11-02T20:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/dan-crenshaw-defends-trump-boat-strikes-but-hesitates-on-support-for-strikes-on-venezuela-itself\/"},"modified":"2025-11-02T20:16:59","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T20:16:59","slug":"dan-crenshaw-defends-trump-boat-strikes-but-hesitates-on-support-for-strikes-on-venezuela-itself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/dan-crenshaw-defends-trump-boat-strikes-but-hesitates-on-support-for-strikes-on-venezuela-itself\/","title":{"rendered":"Dan Crenshaw defends Trump boat strikes but hesitates on support for strikes on Venezuela itself"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/276057\" data-person-id=\"276057\">Dan Crenshaw<\/a> on Sunday defended President Donald Trump\u2019s efforts to oust Venezuela\u2019s Nicol\u00e1s Maduro but stopped short of endorsing land strikes on the country.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with CBS\u2019 Margaret Brennan on &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; the Texas Republican said the administration\u2019s pressure campaign shows Trump is taking Venezuela \u201cmuch more seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeterrence almost always works, especially when you are dealing with dictators like Maduro,\u201d Crenshaw said. \u201cThey only listen to one thing, which is power. And Venezuela has been largely left alone by American administrations. The Western Hemisphere has been left alone, and I think this president is taking it much more seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, the Trump administration has engaged in multiple strikes of boats they say are full of drugs being smuggled into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the president hinted at expanding military operations from the sea to the land, an idea Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/10\/26\/lindsey-graham-venezuelan-land-strikes-trump-00623426\" target=\"_blank\">said he would support<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Crenshaw wasn\u2019t quite ready to back that idea, telling Brennan there would have to be \u201ca longer conversation about doing something to that extent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTalking hypotheticals about invading Venezuela, I mean, that&#8217;s not really what we&#8217;re talking about right now,\u201d Crenshaw added.<\/p>\n<p>But while Crenshaw praised Trump for the steps he has taken so far, he drew a line between himself and another prominent Republican: Tucker Carlson.<\/p>\n<p>The Fox News anchor-turned podcaster recently invited Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes to his show. The interview was soon widely condemned as antisemitic by much of the GOP after the show aired.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Carlson said Republican supporters of Israel \u2014 including U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) \u2014 suffer from a \u201cbrain virus,\u201d while Fuentes said the \u201cbig challenge\u201d to unifying the country was \u201corganized Jewry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have had a long-standing feud with Tucker Carlson,\u201d Crenshaw said Sunday. \u201cI\u2019m glad everyone else is also waking up now to how bad of a person he is.
