{"id":15039,"date":"2025-10-30T18:46:39","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T18:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/britt-and-schumer-have-rare-bipartisan-chat-as-senators-feel-out-shutdown-endgame\/"},"modified":"2025-10-30T18:46:39","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T18:46:39","slug":"britt-and-schumer-have-rare-bipartisan-chat-as-senators-feel-out-shutdown-endgame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/britt-and-schumer-have-rare-bipartisan-chat-as-senators-feel-out-shutdown-endgame\/","title":{"rendered":"Britt and Schumer have rare bipartisan chat as senators feel out shutdown endgame"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A key GOP appropriator spoke with Senate Minority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51231\" data-person-id=\"51231\">Chuck Schumer<\/a> Tuesday and again Thursday in rare bipartisan conversations involving the top Democrat as rank-and-file senators hunt for ways to end the 30-day government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/6774\" data-person-id=\"6774\">Katie Britt<\/a> (R-Ala.), who chairs the Appropriations subcommittee on Homeland Security, confirmed she spoke to Schumer about \u201cwanting to lay the foundation for us to be able to do our appropriations work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before the Thursday conversation, Britt met with Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51242\" data-person-id=\"51242\">John Thune<\/a> about appropriators\u2019 push to move the three-funding bill minibus alongside a new stopgap through mid-December. <\/p>\n<p>Asked about the conversation later Thursday, Thune sidestepped a question about whether he asked Britt to speak to Schumer but offered general support for the bipartisan talks. &#8220;The solution here is not going to run through Schumer,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer met Thursday with members of his own caucus, including Sens. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/66834\" data-person-id=\"66834\">Jeanne Shaheen<\/a> (D-N.H.), and <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/197755\" data-person-id=\"197755\">Angus King<\/a> (I-Maine), who have been in talks with Britt and other Republicans. <\/p>\n<p>Schumer did not respond to multiple questions Thursday about the funding talks.
