They claim instead that she was used as &#8220;window dressing&#8221; in the ploy to bilk buyers. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-3daf32\">But in <a href=\"https:\/\/lynch.house.gov\/2025\/5\/rep-lynch-and-financial-services-democrats-introduce-the\" target=\"_blank\">accusing her husband<\/a> of corruption earlier this year over his family&#8217;s building its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/2ea2b35b-e009-42ed-b4d3-6b21aa9b2a13\" target=\"_blank\">crypto empire<\/a> while the president steers policy around the industry, congressional Democrats called out the first lady&#8217;s promotion of the cryptocurrency named after her, a meme coin dubbed $MELANIA that soon flopped. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-050567\">As WIRED <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/melania-trump-used-as-window-dressing-in-elaborate-memecoin-fraud-legal-filing-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>the plaintiffs asked the judge this week for permission to file an updated version of their ongoing lawsuit accusing Benjamin Chow and Hayden Davis, two men who cofounded crypto-based companies, of leading a pump-and-dump scheme that fraudulently misrepresented the value of numerous cryptocurrencies &mdash; including $MELANIA and $LIBRA, a cryptocurrency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-05-20\/milei-shuts-down-argentina-unit-investigating-crypto-scandal?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\">promoted<\/a> by Trump-supporting Argentina President Javier Milei. <\/p>\n<section id=\"anchor-a99fae\">\n<blockquote cite>\n<p>On Tuesday, the plaintiffs sought the court&rsquo;s permission to file yet another amended complaint, based on alleged information provided by an anonymous whistleblower. With Chow acting as the &ldquo;commander,&rdquo; the pair launched, pumped, and dumped at least 15 crypto coins, the proposed second amended complaint alleges, including $MELANIA. The scheme allegedly inflicted millions of dollars in losses on unwitting investors. Trump, who is not a named defendant in the lawsuit, was used as &ldquo;window dressing for a crime engineered by Meteora and Kelsier,&rdquo; the proposed document alleged. The filing further states that the plaintiffs do not allege that Trump or Milei &ldquo;operated the scheme.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><small><span><\/span><\/small><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/section>\n<p id=\"anchor-0a7a13\">The White House, Chow and Davis didn&rsquo;t respond to BLN&#8217;s requests for comment Friday. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-6cf944\">Trump hasn&#8217;t said much in response to either the corruption allegations from Democrats or <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/5098607-trump-faces-crypto-world-backlash-after-launch-of-meme-coin\/\" target=\"_blank\">grumbling<\/a> from some in the crypto realm that he and his family are giving the industry a bad name. Asked about his coin shortly after its announcement, the president said: &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know much about it other than I launched it. I heard it was very successful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-241d41\">The first lady <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MELANIATRUMP\/status\/1881087523847593995?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">endorsed $MELANIA<\/a> with a post on X at its launch around her husband&#8217;s inauguration in January, helping prices jump as high as <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/melania-meme\/\" target=\"_blank\">$12.95 per coin<\/a>.
