Dick Durbin about the legal basis for sending National Guard troops into Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish you loved Chicago as much as you hate President Trump,\u201d Bondi said.<\/p>\n<p>Though Bondi\u2019s appearance was expected to generate intense sparring with Democrats, Durbin seemed caught off guard by the intensity of Bondi\u2019s attack in response to a relatively mild question about the work of the department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been on this committee for more than 20 years. That\u2019s the kind of testimony you expect from this administration,\u201d Durbin said. \u201cA simple question as to whether or not they had a legal rationale for deploying National Guard troops becomes grounds for personal attack. I think it\u2019s a legitimate question.
