{"id":14126,"date":"2025-10-06T21:32:50","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T21:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/schumer-denies-bipartisan-health-care-talks-after-trumps-oval-office-claim\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T21:32:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T21:32:50","slug":"schumer-denies-bipartisan-health-care-talks-after-trumps-oval-office-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/schumer-denies-bipartisan-health-care-talks-after-trumps-oval-office-claim\/","title":{"rendered":"Schumer denies bipartisan health care talks after Trump\u2019s Oval Office claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51231\" data-person-id=\"51231\">Chuck Schumer<\/a> said Monday there are no pending bipartisan talks over expiring health insurance subsidies despite a claim from President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The president said in Oval Office comments to reporters Monday that &#8220;we have a negotiation going on right now with the Democrats that could lead to very good things &#8230; with regard to health care.&#8221; He later reiterated &#8220;we are speaking with the Democrats&#8221; on health care but did not specify with whom.<\/p>\n<p>But Schumer said in a statement that &#8220;Trump\u2019s claim isn\u2019t true \u2014 but if he\u2019s finally ready to work with Democrats, we\u2019ll be at the table.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have made extending the expiring subsidies \u2014 available for insurance plans offered on Affordable Care Act exchanges \u2014 a central demand in the ongoing government shutdown fight. They have pushed Republicans to negotiate but GOP leaders on Capitol Hill have said they must first reopen government agencies. <\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said earlier Monday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/10\/06\/trump-not-talking-to-democrats-00595157\" target=\"_blank\">Trump was not talking to Democrats<\/a> amid the shutdown standoff. Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/242539\" data-person-id=\"242539\">Mike Johnson<\/a> said Monday he had spoken to Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51219\" data-person-id=\"51219\">Patty Murray<\/a> of Washington, the top Democratic appropriator, about moving full-year spending bills \u2014 not about health care. Murray declined to discuss the call Monday but said she did not initiate the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>GOP senators have said the White House is being kept in the loop about the contours of what is being discussed by a bipartisan group of senators who are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/10\/01\/senators-hunt-for-possible-path-out-of-shutdown-00589952\" target=\"_blank\">hunting for a way out<\/a> of the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If President Trump and Republicans are finally ready to sit down and get something done in healthcare for American families, Democrats will be there \u2014 ready to make it happen,&#8221; Schumer said Monday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Monday there are no pending bipartisan talks over expiring health insurance subsidies despite a claim from President Donald Trump.
