{"id":13178,"date":"2025-09-12T17:47:41","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:47:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/trump-policies-to-drag-on-economic-growth-cbo-predicts-offsetting-megabill-gains\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T17:47:41","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:47:41","slug":"trump-policies-to-drag-on-economic-growth-cbo-predicts-offsetting-megabill-gains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelightnews.com\/category\/politics\/trump-policies-to-drag-on-economic-growth-cbo-predicts-offsetting-megabill-gains\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump policies to \u2018drag&#8217; on economic growth, CBO predicts, offsetting megabill gains"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Republicans claim the GOP megabill, coupled with President Donald Trump\u2019s tariff and immigration policies, will \u201cunleash economic growth.\u201d Congress\u2019 nonpartisan scorekeeper says not so much.<\/p>\n<p>The Congressional Budget Office&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2025-09\/61236-Economy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">new economic estimates<\/a> released Friday predict that over the next three years, policies implemented this year by Trump and the Republican-led Congress will have little effect on growth before the 2028 election.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because Trump\u2019s tariff policies and crackdown on immigration are estimated to cool the economy this year, more than outweighing any growth spurred by the <a href=\"https:\/\/legislation.politicopro.com\/bill\/US_119_HR_1\" target=\"_blank\">tax and spending package<\/a> Republicans turned into law this summer.<\/p>\n<p>By next year, CBO expects that balance to change some, as the effects of the megabill begin to outweigh the negative economic impact of tariffs and immigration policy, pushing GDP growth higher than previously predicted.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in the lead-up to the 2028 presidential election, the combination of the GOP policies are estimated to be mostly a wash for economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>In 2027 and 2028, the GOP megabill\u2019s boost to demand will wane as reduced immigration hits the labor force, acting \u201cas a drag on growth,\u201d the budget office predicts.
