I want to be clear that I am not accusing Israel of genocide, \u201d she said in the statement to Blue Light News on Tuesday. \u201cWe all need to work with urgency to bring the remaining hostages home, surge aid to Palestinians and oppose their involuntary relocation, remove Hamas from power, and end the war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clark\u2019s statement was first reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/no-2-house-democrat-backtracks-comment-about-gaza-genocide\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Jewish News Syndicate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Clark made her comments at an event hosted by a Quaker organization in her district last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/08\/15\/katherine-clark-gaza-israel-00512112?nid=0000014f-704c-d54c-a1ff-fb6da68f0000&amp;nname=massachusetts-playbook&amp;nrid=df32436a-c7cc-41cf-af74-f924d3c1b9f6\" target=\"_blank\">POLITICO previously reported<\/a>. At the event, she called on those in the audience to \u201ctake action in time to make a difference \u2026 whether that is stopping the starvation and genocide and destruction of Gaza\u201d or other major political issues.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson at the time did not walk back the characterization but also said that her position on the fighting in the region hadn\u2019t changed. <\/p>\n<p>Though Democrats across the country have been critical of Israel\u2019s ground offensive in Gaza, very few have called it a genocide.
