Rules recessed after Democrats threatened to force a vote on Epstein \u2014 a move that is now derailing floor action planned for this week.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said Monday night the plan is still to stay until Thursday. The House can still work through suspension votes on relatively uncontroversial, bipartisan measures that can get two-thirds support from members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not sending anybody home,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s making for an awkward megabill celebration Tuesday night at the White House, where Trump is planning to host Republican lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>GOP leaders have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/07\/21\/congress\/house-gop-epstein-strategy-00465234\" target=\"_blank\">an understanding\u00a0with the White House<\/a> that the House will not vote on releasing further Epstein documents before the August recess.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Trump administration\u2019s petitioned the courts to release some of the sealed documents,\u201d Scalise said in an interview. \u201cHopefully, the court acts swiftly. It\u2019d be important if they got that out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who has a discharge petition that would require the release of Epstein-related documents, is undeterred and warning that support for his effort will only be bigger when Congress returns in September. He says at least a dozen Republicans support his proposal \u2013 and he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheoVon\/status\/1947350057570762898\" target=\"_blank\">appears to have the backing<\/a> of Theo Von as well.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>What else we&#8217;re watching: <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2014 Senate Dems prepare for funding fights: <\/b>Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is beginning to organize Democrats around a looming government funding battle.
