Tara has said he backs such moves and criticized what he called political resistance within the military.<\/p>\n<p>Tata faced criticism over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/02\/05\/congress\/anthony-tata-pentagon-personnel-00202629\" target=\"_blank\">past remarks<\/a> in which he called then-President Barack Obama a \u201cterrorist leader,\u201d and accused senior Pentagon officials of being <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ajtata\/status\/1874685344995553723\" target=\"_blank\">\u201ccompromised \u2026 by hatred\u201d<\/a> against Trump. His earlier nomination for Pentagon policy chief was withdrawn during Trump\u2019s first term after bipartisan backlash. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/08\/02\/donald-trump-anthony-tata-pentagon-390851\" target=\"_blank\">Tata was later installed at the Pentagon<\/a> in an acting position.<\/p>\n<p>Tata, at his confirmation hearing in May, <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/2025\/05\/pentagon-personnel-chief-pick-who-called-obama-a-terrorist-leader-backtracks-on-past-comments-00331560\" target=\"_blank\">attempted to walk back those comments<\/a>. He called them \u201cout of character\u201d and expressed regret. But Democrats were unconvinced, citing a pattern of inflammatory rhetoric and questioning whether Tata could impartially lead a workforce of more than two million active-duty troops, civilians and their dependents.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.politicopro.com\/member\/51223\" data-person-id=\"51223\">Jack Reed<\/a> (D-R.I.), the Senate Armed Services Committee\u2019s ranking member, urged his colleagues to reject the nomination.
